Asperger's Syndrome

What is "Asperger's Syndrome"?

Well obviously Asperger's Syndrome is a strain of autism. This section with the same name details my own experiences after being diagnosed with Aspergers in 2010.

Asperger's Syndrome

The modern world is not kind to people on the autistic spectrum. We are surrounded by noisy machines that constantly beep at us all day long.

Coffee is my kryptonite. Who would have thunk it?

The past ten years have not been easy. As each day of the new 21th century era crept forward I became more irritated; more frustrated; more willing to snap at the slightest sound. Up until late in the decade I often favored the sweet nectar of whiskey and the cooling comfort of poisonous cigarette smoke.

In times of reflection I can remember that life wasn't always like this. I was an easy-going young adult.

Original Story

It looks like I have another film to add to my list. Catherine Faherty“ of Asheville’s TEACCH Center says "Neurotypical lets people on the autism spectrum tell their own stories, as it interweaves the lives of a child, a teenager and an adult newly diagnosed with autism."

Asperger's Syndrome

I don't watch a whole lot of TV, so I was surprised when my wife sent me this link for the  "Aspergers High" parody video. We all know TV-land loves to embrace certain subsets of society. We've gone through the "Single Dads", "Two dudes with Kids", "Gays", "Lesbians", "Downs Syndrome", "Alcoholics" and more.

Asperger's Syndrome

What a year. Last April I studied pretty deep on the symtoms of Aspergers Syndrome and found my personality to be a dead match.  Every rock I overturned brought on new insight into various quirks I've had all my life. For the most part I'm a normal person. That's how most people would describe me. That is to say, after 30 some-odd years I've learned how to fake the correct responses in social situations.

Asperger's Syndrome

In this raw cut video I ramble on about my sensitivy to sounds. I try to explain how not all sounds bother me, but often specific ones are much worse than others.

Asperger's Syndrome

This year has been an awaking for me. Early in the year, clues started to come in about my Asperges Symptoms. That led to a good bit of research on people with similar issues. I read an interesting post at MeetTaylorMorris about "Dairy as a Disaster".

Asperger's Syndrome

I found this incredible article that any parent with an Autistic child should pay attention to. The controversy of diet and Autistic symptoms continues to rage on. Parents of Autistic children have found that removing diary and wheat products from their diet can in fact reverse the symptoms of Autism. Doctors continue to poo-poo the idea claiming lack of medical evidence.

Asperger's Syndrome

I came upon some extremely interesting information about the connection between milk gluten and Autism/Aspergers. There is still some debate on the issue, but in many cases taking out dairy and wheat from an Autistic child's diet is met with good results. Some people suggest it should be done with adult "Aspies"  as well.

Asperger's Syndrome

I really enjoyed this video from Taylor Morris.  I've been heavily researching Asperger's as I'm convinced I have the condition. Taylor outlines many of the issues I've had throughout life. One I've had and never thought about any Asperger's connection is the pacing back and forth. She mentions "pacing 3 miles in the house".  I have the same habit of pacing inside for hours in an effort to "turn on the Asperger's Mind" and find some degree of comfort.
